1. Lowers Blood Pressure
In a study, researchers placed 20 adults diagnosed with high blood pressure under a daily dosage of cardamom powder. The blood pressure of the participants was decreased to normal after 12 weeks, showing the ability of cardamom in lowering blood pressure.
Researchers have suggested that this is due to the high levels of antioxidants in the plant. Cardamom also promotes the removal of excess water in the body through urination, a diuretic property that helps keep blood pressure low.
2. Fights microbial infections
Cardamom has been shown to kill bacteria and fungi by damaging their cell membranes. It contains powerful antimicrobial agents such as eucalyptus, linalool, and neryl butyrate.
Research conducted in 2018 tested cardamom essential oil on various strains of Salmonella, staphylococcus, and enterococcus. The study showed that cardamom exhibited antimicrobial activity on the bacteria.
